The Youth Invitation Program is one aspect of technical support targeting developing nations that is carried out by the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA). The program invites young people, who bear the weight of future nation-building, from ASEAN, Asia, the Pacific Rim, Latin America, and Africa, to Japan in order to attend three-week training sessions divided into specialty fields. The goal is for the youth, while studying under each field, to build confidence and friendships through extensive interactions with people such as their host families, in addition to deepening mutual understanding between cultures.
In basic construct, the program is operated by JICA with the cooperation of numerous domestic youth development organizations, international exchange organizations, governmental offices, and administrative divisions throughout Japan. Upon JICA’s request, the Fukuoka International Exchange Foundation has also been providing the invited youth with the skills and know-how of various field within Fukuoka, as well as organizing host families for them, since 1997.
