We provide a route for intercultural understanding through our International Exchange Volunteer Program.
As Fukuoka progresses on its way toward internationalization, the number of foreigners living in Fukuoka has been increasing rapidly. Coinciding with this, various types of international exchange have become popular. Recently, working as a volunteer at international events, which lets people get up close and personal with international exchange, is getting a lot of attention. At Kokusai Hiroba, a volunteer program is in place that helps to support this type of international exchange.
This type of interaction can be a key first step toward international understanding and may be the start to learning the real meaning of international exchange. Why not take advantage of this opportunity and take part in these volunteer activities?
What is the International Exchange Volunteer Program?
This program was started with the purpose of promoting international exchange activities in Fukuoka and to make use of the abilities of its people to show international goodwill and participate in these activities. This program started in 1989 with a homestay/home visit program. In 1995, languagee programs were started, making a total of two different programs.
ホームビジットボランティア
Homestay / Home visit volunteers
Homestay families provide foreigners visiting Fukuoka a chance to stay with Japanese families. Since its introduction in 1989, the homestay program has provided wonderful opportunities for people to meet and expanded the wave of intercultural exchange. In the fiscal year of 2006, 32 participants from 12 different countries, such as the United States of America, Canada, Laos, Thailand, Vietnam, Taiwan and more, joined this program.
Partipants still keep in touch or visit their homestay families again and continue intercultural exchange in diverse ways.
